Large group meeting structure ideas
- Possible topics:
- Overview of the Gospel, and how to explain it
- Sing a song?
- ‘Stories’
- At big group meetings I’d love to hear more stories about how God has worked in people lives: students, old students, and non students! I want to hear how God has been using us to reach our friends and how people have become Christians while at uni or just where God has done something amazing. Because that stuff gives God glory and inspires us to ‘keep up the good work’. -Si
Cell group ideas
Drinking Group
- Since uni students are so into drinking maybe we could start a group that meets at a pub. I heard of a group in England called ‘Pint of View.’ We could call ours “Drink of the Spirit,” or “Beer one another’s burdens.”
Seriously…
- I think a CU group that meets at a pub or café and just hangs out together, builds friendships, and provides a place to invite non-Christian to meet Christians would be really useful.
Why/What/How
- I could help make a group like that happen at Pipitea, and maybe another group could meet at the Mount Street bar?? Most of the people who go to CU are already Christians and know the Bible pretty well, and non-Christians are not likely to show up to a Bible study. However, a group that meets to talk about their lives, and maybe watch a discussion-prompting video on a laptop, might meet a need for Christians and non-Christians to interact, find support, and ask big questions. -Si
Possible missional events
Not really events, but some thoughts on mission... -Si
Local people, lonely people, shy people
- Lately I’ve been asking myself what are the ‘needs’ at university that Christians can address? After talking to a few people I think community (a connectedness, friendship, and belonging) is something awesome we can offer. This may be especially true for some local students who commute in and out for classes but don’t connect with anyone. Can we help coordinate transport for those people to make it to big group meetings??? Is there any other ways we can identify and help lonely and shy people to connect with others at uni???
The name is Bond, Friendship Bond
- I love the focus CU has had this year on mission, and the discussions and prayer we’ve had in groups for our friends. I think CU has a really important role in encouraging and supporting Christians to reach out to their friends. Each of us as ‘missional Christians’ really need support and encouragement because it can be really tough and discouraging if it feels we are ‘out there alone’ or don’t have someone to turn to when our friends have issues that are too big for us.
Congratulations, you’re talented!
- Maybe CU can have even more focus on encouraging us all to use our natural talents and passions to reach others for God. God gave us those talents for a reason… and when we reach out through those passions it is much more natural and exciting. For example, someone who is a good ‘explainer’ could help another student who is struggling with course work, and a sports nut can use sport to reach out to friends (even if it is just watching a game at the bar and not getting drunk!)! A computer geek can use their love of computers, and there are hundreds of other talents and passions people have! CU can be pivotal in helping students identify those talents and interests then encouraging us to put them to use!
